Play Ball!

Yesterday a good friend(who is from Boston so most photos are Red Sox related!) went to the Baseball Exhibit at the Reagan Library in Simi Valley,CA and reported it was quite amazing. A treasure trove of the most rare baseball memorabilia, all one person’s personal collection. (Anonymous). There are a few different hand quilted wall hangings/bedspreads that are incredible… one of the pictures shown above has hundreds of “autographed baseballs”; the woman sent the cloth to all of the players for their signatures and then she embroidered over them in very fine thread. She hand appliquéd the portraits as well. I can’t begin to imagine how long it took!

One piece of trivia learned: in order to sign 19 year old George Ruth to his first contract, in Baltimore, the team manager had to adopt him. The other players starting referring to him as the manager’s “new babe”….hence the name!

The exhibit  opened on April 4th and will close on September 4th,2014.

A True Family Home on the Cape

DSC02434DSC02442DSC02456DSC02461DSC02453DSC02471DSC02472DSC02476

We went to visit friends here on the Cape who had renovated their house-gutted it completely. It was originally 3 small cottages from the mid 1800’s that had been made into one home years ago but as our friend said “you went up and down steps” to get to parts of each house. They created more of a logical house in the space-and it is incredible. From the beautiful views to the little details-they had a lot of fun with this project.

I loved the lighting fixtures-they were all made by Eloise Pickard of Sandy Springs Gallery. I also loved the way the owners turned the couches in the living room to look out at the views instead of the more traditional facing a fireplace or facing each other. After all, the views are incredible as they are right near the water.

The pop of aqua in the mudroom, the barstools with both San Francisco and Boston teams to celebrate the owners’ home town teams, the “Lilly” guest room with dresses she had framed from her girls when they were small, the really fun laundry room floor…all of it adds up to a home well-loved and very much showing the creativity and cleverness of the owners.

The Red Sox Lamp!

A week ago today, Concord Lamp and Shade was showcased on the TV show Chronicle-a local show highlighting towns and events going on in and around the Boston area. They showed our Red Sox lamp which we make from start to finish right at our store. THe base is made of regulation baseballs, the base is made of ash like the bat(or you can also get white). You can even get finials that are either a baseball or a baseball and mitt. Most importantly when you turn the lamp on-there are several things that light up as if it were a night game!
To order the lamp-we ship anywhere-check out Concord Lamp and Shade.

New York and Chicago certainly have made clear their thoughts with these gestures….the first is a message from NY to Boston projected on the Brooklyn Academy of Music…a cartoon in the New Yorker…the ad was in the Chicago Tribune… the Green Building at MIT last night had the American flag running down it…and of course the general feeling of the Red Sox nation.

Red It Right!

This client wanted a pop of raspberry somewhere so I suggested we paint her Family Room red/raspberry. She was really not sure at first but when we looked at how much white she has with her skylight, bookcase and big windows she felt more comfortable with the idea. Now she reports it is by far her favorite room because at night it has a very warm feeling and she feels cozy in the room. The color is made by C2 Paints-it is called Bombay(1084).

Let’s Support Those Sox!

We sell this wonderful lamp at Concord Lamp and Shade in Concord MA. At night it turns into a “night game”-all of the lines and lights turn bright white. The names of the  Red Sox players are on the shirts of the fans watching the game. The balls that make the base are regulation balls and the base is made of ash  ( like a baseball bat.) Great gift for fans!!
